This weekend saw GIS play host to teams from the Australian school Singapore, Tanglin Trust, Jerudong Brunei, Uplands and Tenby Penang and our local rivals Alice Smith, with 14 teams entered in total.
GIS had a great turnout and we were able to field 3 teams the Dragons, Knights and Warriors.
The competition was tough from the very start with the Knights and Warriors pitted in the same group as eventual winners AIS and 3rd place Alice Smith. We had lots of netball thanks to some frantic mopping to keep the courts dry and headed into the second day with the Dragons finishing second in their group and playing for the cup while the Knights and Warriors went on to play in the bowl competition.
Day two went smoothly with the Dragons beginning to gel as a team and breezing through to the semi finals of the cup. The warriors ended up playing for 5th and 6th in the bowl and took the 5th place spot after an enigmatic 9-1 win over KLASS C. The knights then faced a nail biting final for the bowl where they managed to hang on against TTS to take the trophy!
Back in the cup competition the Dragons had a tough semi final and lost out to TTS Red. They then faced our Nemesis Alice Smith A for 3rd and 4th place. Unfortunately, it was not our day and girls couldn’t quite seal a victory. Fourth place for one of the youngest teams in the competition was a great achievement and something to build on for next year!
All three teams can be very proud of their performances, and their positive attitude of the weekend, they made us all very proud.
A massive thank you to all the GIS helpers, photographers and parents as well as Miss Wen Xi for all their contributions over the weekend. A final thank you to Miss Havercroft and Miss Clarke for giving up their time to coach the Knights and warriors.
Remember girls…… “Keep Calm and Play Netball!”
