It felt like the longest 3 days 2 nights that we have ever had in Bangkok past weekend when we attended the 2012 Bangkok Patana Tiger Sharks International ‘Feeding Frenzy’ Invitational at Bangkok Patana School from 7th – 9th December 2012. Arriving to the hotel at 1pm, we had to rush through lunch, checking into hotel and head straight to the swimming pool for our Day 1 competition with one of our GIS star swimmer Andrew Ting from 11M securing a silver in the 1500m Freestyle event follow by a triumph victory from Howard Sim of 8G and Anjali Lim of 6P in the 400m Individual Medley.
As there were more than 600 swimmers participating in the event, the starting time for Day 2 had to be brought forward an hour and hence everyone had to wake up at 5am in the morning preparing themselves for breakfast and departure for the pool at 6:15am. Although Day 2 ended approximately at 6pm, we felt that the long day was all worthwhile when we came back with 6 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals from Anjali Lim of 6P, Andrew Ting of 11M, Arika Okubo of 4M, Bernardo Scardigli of 4S and Howard Sim of 8G.
Day 3 was exciting as we see everyone pumped up and continue cheering on the last day of the competition. GIS came back with 3 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals from Arika Okubo of 4M, Anjali Lim of 6P, Howard Sim of 8G, Andrew Ting of 11M and Katherine Yap of 9G.
All in all it was an amazing 3 days experience for everyone in Bangkok. Some of the swimmers took part in their first international swimming meet with over 600 swimmers from 15 International schools from 6 Southeast Asia countries. Well done to everyone!
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank parents who were there at the meet giving their excellent support.
