U10 Girls Football

Perfect Start to Girls’ U-10 football season

GIS U-10s Girls’ footballers were straight back to winning ways in the first two fixtures of the 2013 season, securing successive victories against ISKL and KLASS.

Playing against older opposition from ISKL, the girls showed great composure and teamwork to control the game, ending 3-0 victors thanks to goals from striker Zoya, captain Madelief and roving defender Isabel. Training ground work on formation and positioning paid off, with midfield three Maya, Carlotta and Madelief working together to show good movement around the pitch, and keep possession throughout the match.

A week later, the Dragons faced their second test against a KLASS side once again containing a mixture of u11 and u10 players. But, once again, the team refused to be daunted in the face of more experienced opponents. Vira and Bella had notable debuts, closing down the opposition and winning possession, while Nadia, playing as a forward, linked up excellently with her teammates. Goals came in each half through composed finishes from Zoya and Madelief, and despite late pressure, the girls held on for a deserved 2-0 win.

Despite their banana-skin yellow jerseys, there were no slip-ups from our three goalkeepers, Nalini, Georgina and Evie. All three shot-stoppers kept clean sheets in their games to keep competition fierce for the number one shirt. They have been ably assisted through excellent defensive displays from Kinga, Vicky and Isabel.

The squad this year has incredible strength in depth, and it has been great to see so many players at training each week. Having to select a 7-a-side team from 25 enthusiastic, eager and talented children has given the coaches a real head-ache, and we look forward to being able to give more players a chance to shine in competition in upcoming games.
