GIS KL Dragons Sports Teams

ISAC Golf 2013

Fresh off 4 hard-effort training practice rounds this term at KLGCC, our young team of Dragons Golfers were very excited to compete in the ISAC Golf match against ISKL. The friendly match was held at the Saujana Golf and Country Club on Sunday 24 February 2013.

The match kicked off with the 4 coaches teeing off in the first flight at 12.32pm The remaining 6 flights of 23 players (13 from GIS and 10 from ISKL), having exchanged their scorecards and marked their golf balls then teed off with an 8-minute interval between each flight.

ISAC Golf is our team’s first local tournament and it has provided our team members a fantastic playing experience on another championship course. In an effort to speed up play, one of the rules that was adopted for this tournament was the “Double Par” rule.

Holes #14 and #15 were nominated for the Longest Drive and Nearest to the Pin respectively; as part of the Novelty Prizes. Coloured flag markers were then placed by the players on the fairway and on the green. This was done on an honour system.

The glorious sunshine deserted us around 3.30pm; the skies darkened and the tropical rainstorm swept its way through Saujana. The match was then called off; most of the players had only finished playing 11-12 holes. The results of the tournament would now then be decided by taking the scores from the first 9-holes of play.

Our boys were outdriven by the much older ISKL boys but managed to still keep a close rein on their game. Very commendable placings in the Individual Event! The scores for the top 5 boys in each team were taken to arrive at the Team Winner and ISKL won by 11 strokes.

The girls, however, recorded their first major triumph by playing their way into the 1st and 2nd placing in the Individual Event as well as recording a 10-stroke victory over the ISKL girls in the team event.

Congratulations to the GIS Dragons Golfers for a well-played match!!
