MSSWP Swimming Championship 2013

Once again, our swimmers from Garden International School took part in the 32nd Malaysia Inter-Schools Sports of Wilayah Persekutuan (MSSWP) in the aquatic category which was held on the 26 till 27 of February, 2013 at Bandar Tun Razak pool.

Despite of the morning rain at the wee hours and blazing hot sun in the afternoon, Garden International School was represented by thirteen strong experienced swimmers and was able to make its presence felt by claiming individual medals in total. The best performance was displayed by Anjali Lim with a total of 5 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze making her the recipient of the Best Girl award for Under 12 Girls. Well done Anjali!

Zoe Bowden in the Under 15 Girls from Garden School also did a fantastic job by securing her favourite 200M backstroke with 1 gold medal on the first day, subsequently with 6 silvers and 4 bronze in a very tough competition swimming next to a swimmer from the Malaysia National Team. It was a very close call in every event they did together by just a mere split seconds but a very good competitive swim towards the end.

Andrew Ting in the Under 18 Boys did a remarkable swim even though he was away for his International Award (Silver) for the first day whereby he misses out his favourite pet swim event that is the 200M and 50M breaststroke. But on the second day, after a tired trip back he bounced back and did well in his 400M individual Medley and 100M breaststroke, thus securing 2 gold medals for Garden School again.

Chew Li Ann, also one and only Under 18 Girls, did a fantastic job despite having to swim with all the experience swimmers like herself, did herself proud by securing a bronze in her favourite backstroke and was very happy after the tough fight.

First time swimmer Ho Jia-En did her best and improved her timings and learning a lot of new things in the process followed by second year swimmer Adira DS Yahya who did herself proud by improving her personal best.

The only relay team representing Garden school in this meet was the U15 boys. The medley relay team made up of Jared Deck, Howard Sim, Chew Zhen Wei and Chai Yi Hao where they made a good start leading the medley relay race but eventually have to settled for silver when another rival team gave chase to a close finishing.

But Garden swimmers freestyle relay team remained upbeat with Bradley Lim, Howard Sim, Ryan Ting and Jared Deck making up a strong combination to redeem back the gold medal.

It was a good team spirit among the swimmers supporting each other.  At the end of the day, it just shows that no matter how we come as a number in swimming but the quality of swimming is there to show that we are the “Dragon Swimmers from Garden International School”.  Hopefully, we wish to see more swimmers joining in next year.

We would also like to thank the parents and swimmers for their support and a good job done.
