U15 Fobisia – Girls Basketball

Following the exertions of the girls football, the previous day, was always going to be tough for the girls basketball team. Especially as many of them played in the football competition.

with a new format this year that saw every team play all the other teams hopes were high of a top four finish. first up were Tanglin, who had swept all before in previous couple of years, and we got off to a great start. However a lucky basket with 5 seconds remaining sealed the win for Tanglin and severely deflated the team. Next up were Harrow where the girls managed to scrape a win in a very scrappy game.

The third game saw the team play Bangkok Patana, this is where the disappointment and tiredness really hit home and the girls didn’t really show up for the game allowing Patana to come away comfortable winners. After lunch and some relaxing fun  activities with Miss McGlinchey the team took on arch rivals Alice Smith. At last the girls started show how well they could play and finished with a good win.

The final game against BIS Jakarta was a winner takes all affair – with the winner finishing 3rd overall. It proved to be  another tense and scrappy game with the lead changing hands through the course of the game. In the end the GIS team had just enough left to hold on for a narrow win and claim 3rd place overall.

It was a great way to finish 3 day of hard competition for all involved. The girls basketball team showed how well they can play losing only to the teams in 1st and 2nd. With many of the team leaving or moving up to the U18 age group finishing with a medal was a fitting send off.
