On Saturday 1st March, at the UM Stadium in Bangsar, the GIS primary athletics team produced several outstanding performances to bag a large haul of medals and in the process, smash several championship records. Despite many children coming back from various camps and other trips the day before, GIS’s primary superstars showed little signs of tiredness as they once again did the school proud.
Highlights from the morning included:
Three golds for Maya Duckett in the Under 11 Girls 100m, High Jump and 4 x 100m. In the 100m her time of 14.28 was a championship record and she ran the anchor leg in the 4 x 100m where her team won by a margin of nearly 5 seconds. The team’s time of 1:01.49 was also a championship record.
Another member of the gold winning record breaking Under 11 girls 4 x 100m was Merissa Wong. She scored other golds in the Shot Putt (6.58m) and Long Jump (3.70m), breaking Salome Das’ championship record set last year.
Three Golds and three championship records for Kristian Anderson in the Under 9 boys age category in the 50m (8.03), 200m (32.48) and 4 x 100m (1:04.86) where he ran the first leg.
