Welcome to a new year of sport here at the GIS.
My name is Ian Deeth and I have taken over the role of Athletics Director at Garden International School. GIS has a proud sporting tradition and our representative teams come under the banner of the ‘GIS Dragons.’
The PE Department are all involved in running various Dragons teams but we also have a number of teachers outside of the department, as well as professional external coaches, who help deliver our comprehensive programme.
We participate in a wide range of sports including: 7-a-side football, basketball, netball, swimming, rugby 7s (boys only), touch rugby (girls only), cross country, athletics, tee ball, tennis, golf, badminton, gymnastics, netball and triathlon. Dragons age groups range from Under 7s through to Under 18s.
The 2014/15 Sports season will see us attend over 50 local and international weekend tournaments throughout south East Asia.
The school is a member of ISAC (International Schools Athletics Conference), participating against local schools in Kuala Lumpur in weekly fixtures and weekend tournaments. As a member of SEASAC (South East Asia Schools Athletics Conference), our Senior U18 teams attend tournaments in Singapore, Hong Kong, Jakarta and Bangkok. GIS also compete in the FOBISIA ‘A’ League (Federation of British International Schools in Asia), competing in Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 multi-sport tournaments.
This sporting year, GIS will be hosting many sports tournaments including:
· SEASAC Division 2 Boys Football
· ISAC Athletics Championships
· Primary Modern Biathlon Team Relays
· The Under 9 Football Invitational
· Under 13 FOBISIA Games
· Under 18 ISAC Division 1 Girls Football qualifiers and FINALS
· Under 18 ISAC Division 1Girls Touch Rugby qualifiers and FINALS
Additional sports programmes are run by the GISKL Sports Academy, which is managed by Sam Bottom. These sessions are run by externally qualified coaches and cover a wide range of sports including golf, football, tennis, swimming, netball, badminton, gymnastics and martial arts.
Recreational sport is offered through our CCA programme, managed by Andrew Winstone and Andrew Pritchard.
We look forward to seeing our largest number of students ever enjoying and taking part in school sport!
