Dragons Girls Under 11 Basketball Squad – ISAC Runners Up
A season full of hard work, determination and excitement
Following on from our success last year, we had a huge turnout for our trials when we began the basketball season in September. This year we had 2 teams who made up our U11 Girls Squad and during the season we have had coaching support from Molly Batrouney and Sarah Comber.
Each week, the squad has had matches against some of the other International schools in KL; they had many successes in these matches, some very close games and some very challenging games. In all of these matches the girls have shown enormous amounts of passion and determination to do well; throughout the season they have been positive and thoroughly enjoyed being part of the team.
On Saturday, 1st November 2014, two girls teams from GIS took part in the ISAC U11 basketball tournament at ISKL. The teams did extremely well with the the A team being overall runners up. All members of the squad were part of the lead up and preparation, so they are all contribute to this excellent result.
During the season, each of the teams have showed amazing levels of team work and it was wonderful to see this grow and develop even more as they played together in the ISAC competition. The B team, coached by Molly Batrouney on the day, showed huge resilience, even when they were losing, and showed what true sporting attitudes they have. For the A team, they played to a very high level and the passion they gave was inspiring. The final against ISKL was extremely close with the score ending up at 16:14 to ISKL. Although, initially disappointed to just miss winning, they were extremely proud of how well they played and knew that they had really done their very best. As their coach, I am extremely proud of the the squad we have had this year – they have been so positive and have always given 100%, both in our training sessions and in matches.
Well done to all the girls for their dedication, energy and commitment over the last few months.
