After a great morning at the athletics, GIS Dragons arrived at Shah Alam Aquatics Centre, in search of their first ever win in a FOBISIA event.
The meet started in style with a run away victory (and meet record) for Anjali Lim (2:38.97), in a wonderful display of speed endurance, in the 200m IM.
The next onto the podium was Caitlin Deck, securing her first silver of the day in 50 Backstroke A race (37.01). Following, Caitlin was Bryan Soo who jumped in to claim 3rd in the boys equivalent race (36.99).
Moving onto 100m Breaststroke, Mia O’Leary (1:22.36) and Adira Yahya (1:36.92) claimed wins in both A & B races, with Jiang Rong (silver 1:27.97) and Jun Ida (bronze 1:40.87) claiming medals in the same event.
Medals were now flowing with 4 more in the 50m Butterfly. Anjali (A race 31.55 Meet Record) and Raphael (B Race 33.72) were back to claim Golds. Carlotta tried her hand at fly and came home with a big PB (39.94) takeing a B race Silver. Josh Yong battled tough competition to claim bronze in the boys A race.
3 Golds and a Bronze in the 100m free. Mia (1:04.15 Meet Record) and Josh (1:04.88) took both A races, with Jiang Rong winning the boys B race (1:10.78) and Adira claiming girls bronze (1:21.11).
The medley relays were extremely exciting with the Dragons storming to victory in the girls race in meet record time. The boys were in the process of following suit until injury struck and they were unabe to complete a GIS double.
Carlotta came back to take another gold for B team 100 back (1:28.79), Caitlin won bronze in the A team (1:23.32) before Jun Ida stormed to Gold in the Mens B race (1:31.45).
Mia and Evie Pickup then swept the girls 50m Breaststroke (37.82 meet record and 44.75 respectively). Jiang Rong followed suit in the boys A race (40.30), with Jared Mills taking a hard fought 4th place in the B race.
100m Fly was another strong event for GIS, with Anjali Lim again taking apart the meet record to win in 1:10.38. Raphael Menard, then claimed silver in the mens race with a new PB 1:20.57.
Caitlin (silver) and Evie (bronze) were on the podium for 50m freestyle. (32.39 and 35.41 respectively) with Bryan Soo claiming a great win in the boys B race (30.73).
The final relays kept the entertainment flowing right to the end, the girls taking another gold, with the boys narrowly missing the podium in 4th.
As the final results were tallied, it was a great opportunity for the swimmers to reflect on a great swim meet and n excellent first day of FOBISIA 2015.
GIS took the competition victory by 20 points over local rivals Alice Smith. The first GIS victory in any FOBISIA event. A very close competition which was secured by every member of the team.
