Nutrition Blog: Introduction to our Guru

After the break, we will begin term 3 with a new feature on the website, a blog from Nutritionist Veronika Becker. She will be posting advice on meals, food groups and some helpful recipes to help GIS pupils eat well, play better and live longer. Here is a brief introduction to Veronica and watch out for her first post next month.

Hello everyone and welcome to my nutrition blog. My name is Veronika, I am from Germany, but living in Malaysia for the past 6 years and loving every minute of it. I am married and have 2 little girls aged 7 and 5 who both attend GIS.

I have a degree as a foreign language correspondent for English and have also completed my diploma in economics but have always had a passion for health/fitness and nutrition. Because of this I decided to become a nutritionist/dietitian graduating at IFE Brinkhaus, Germany, in 2008. All classes at IFE are state approved and officially recognized by ZFU in Germany which is the central department for correspondence courses.

Last year I was given the opportunity to write a blog for EYC and I am very happy to expand to the main campus now. I hope my blogs will provide you with informative tips and easy to make healthy recipes.

We all know how important good food is and how severe the penalty of improper nutrition can be. A lot of diseases can be positively influenced or even avoided by eating the right foods. As well there are all the positives that good nutrition can add and one of those is an abundance of good energy! Nutrition plays a big part in achieving our peak performance in sports as well as in academics!

With all the information out there it is sometimes tough to tell what is really good for us, so how do we create healthy habits and pass them on to our children?

My passion for food with all the different ingredients and teaching healthy habits is what I would like to share with you in the next short while. I hope you will enjoy reading my blogs as much as I enjoy writing them.
