Recipe for the Weekend: Hummus

Hopefully everyone knows how important Vegetables are and in my upcoming blog, you will see how important they really are in an easy to ready food pyramid.

Most of us will consume them as a side with lunch and dinner, but they are also a great snack. Have them washed and ready cut in the fridge to avoid munching on other things like chips or chocolate.

In case you are not a real raw food fan, maybe try to dip them in hummus! I found this easy to make recipe in Jamie Oliver’s “The return of the naked chef” cookbook. Hummus is primarily made of chickpeas which are high in protein, 60 g of dried chickpeas contain 12g of protein which makes it a great snack after work outs!

serves 6

1×400 g tin of chickpeas

(or 170g dried ones, soaked and cooked until tender)

a good pinch of cumin seeds, pounded

1-2small dried red chillies, crumbled

1 clove of garlic, peeled and pounded to a paste

juice of 1 lemon

salt and freshly ground black pepper

extra virgin olive oil

Mash the chickpeas and add all the other ingredients, stir well.

The olive oil is to loosen the mixture and for flavour, therefore it is up to you on how much you use. Not too much of course.

It’s that simple!
