Information for parents and travelling supporters
We are delighted to welcome participants, staff and parents to Garden International School, Kuala Lumpur, for the Under 15 FOBISIA Games 2015. We look forward to three days of terrific sporting contests from Thursday 12th November to Saturday 14th November 2015.
To welcome our guests, we have produced this Parent Information Booklet, which we hope will be useful for parent supporters in planning their daily trips to the Games. Additional information relating to the Games can be found on the 2015 U15 FOBISIA Games website, which is accessed directly via the following link :
Each School is required to appoint a parent representative who will communicate with our Garden’s Parent Representative and collect information on their schools travelling parties details.
We are very grateful to Ruzwana Knight, who has once again taken on the role as Garden International School’s Parent Representative. Some of you may have liaised with Ruzwana during the U13 Games held earlier this year. We will forward her contact details to your School’s nominated Parent Representative, and kindly ask that only the school’s Parent Representative contact Ruzwana.
Arrival to Malaysia:
For further information regarding visas for entry into Malaysia, please click on the following link. You may also check with the Malaysian Embassy/Consulate in your country.
The Malaysian Ringgit (RM) is the currency of Malaysia. Currency exchange is very easy in Kuala Lumpur, and ‘money changers’ can be found at the airport, hotels and in every shopping mall and precinct. At time of print, the USD-MYR exchange rate was approximately US$1=RM4.3
Accommodation for Parent Supporters
Parents are required to make their own bookings with the hotel of their choice. We recommend the Boulevard Hotel which is in a very convenient location, with fast access to Mid Valley MegaMall and The Gardens Mall, a premium shopping haven that has more than 200 outlets and a wide array of top cuisines.
To enjoy a special discounted room rate during the Under 15 FOBISIA Games, kindly contact:
Mr Perry Lee De Silva (Sales Manager)
Approximate distance and times from the Boulevard Hotel to the respective Games venue (per way):
- To Kompleks Sukan MSN Setiawangsa: 21.7km, 28 mins
- To Garden International School (Football and Basketball): 11km (20 mins)
Kindly note that all journey times are approximate and are subject to traffic levels especially at peak periods.
PLEASE NOTE: Parents and visiting families are free to choose their own accommodation, but we ask parents NOT to book rooms at the One World Hotel. As stated in the FOBISIA Handbook, ‘it is desirable that supporters stay in alternative accommodation in order to allow staff to monitor their own teams satisfactorily and not put a strain upon hotel resources etc.’
Parent Transport for the Games
For travelling to and from the hotel to the different FOBISIA venues, we advise parents and supporters to travel by coach/minibus. We recommend GNB Enterprise, who own a fleet 10 seater, 30 seater and 40 seater buses. Kindly contact:
Ms. Jakie (Lim Yoke Phin)
HP: +6 012-2248455
Please note that the hire fee will be the responsibility of the parent supporters and payment will be made directly with the coach provider.
There are numerous taxis in KL, but it can be difficult to catch a cab at peak time or during heavy showers. All taxis in Malaysia are metered and the flag-off fare is RM3, with additional charges for road toll charges. The Blue cabs are a lot more expensive but are more spacious, seating up to 6 passengers. There are incidents of taxi drivers overcharging tourists, so be watchful and always ask the taxi driver to use the meter.
We have secured a competitive rate with Uber throughout the weekend as a reward for our loyalty in the past. We will give you further details of this on request after arrival.
Alternatively, download the MyTeksi: Taxi Booking App on your android or iphone. This is a free taxi-booking app that dispatches a cab in just a few taps, and allows you to accurately monitor the arrival time of your taxi.
Food and Drink at the Competition Venues
Packed lunches will be provided to the participants at the venues on all three days of the competition.
Stalls will be available to parents and spectators to purchase food, snacks and drinks at the Kompleks Sukan MSN Setiawangsa venue. Cash must be paid directly to the vendors at each stall. For the Football and Basketball events, these will take place at Garden International School, where the school canteen serves an extensive menu, including energy drinks and healthy snacks.
Garden International School has an onsite medical centre that is staffed with 4 full time nurses, who will be on hand to help with minor ailments.
In addition, directly beside Garden International School is The Global Doctors Hospital, which is a one-stop centre providing the entire range of specialty medical and dental services.
There are many hospitals and clinics in Kuala Lumpur providing high quality western medical services. The one’s most widely used by foreigners are:

Shopping & Dining
The Kuala Lumpur shopping scene is a pretty comprehensive one and there’s something for every taste and budget: designer labels, local indie brands, and street markets with artsy finds and cheap reproductions – it all depends on what you are looking for.
For high end fashion The Gardens Mall (which is attached to the megamall complex which houses the Boulevard Hotel) is home to international brands such as Jimmy Choo, Diane Von Fürstenberg and Louis Vuitton. Bangsar is a short taxi ride from the Boulevard hotel and this cosmopolitan area offers an alternative range of shops and dining experiences.
